musical.ly is looking for a professional with experience executing innovative licensing agreements to lead our Content Acquisition team in Europe. The Director, Content Acquisition will be responsible for securing complex content distribution agreements with major content owners, such as recording labels, music publishers and collection societies. This position will be based in Berlin.
Responsibilities may include:
- Working with existing partners to secure new rights, content types, and ensure renewal of contracts
- Monitoring the competitive landscape to help inform strategic planning
- Performing content strategy analysis to ensure have the broadest selection of content available
- Developing and analyzing business models for new content types
- Developing long lasting relationships with existing and new content providers
- Ability to deliver results as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, startup environment
Required Experience:
- A track record of managing a large number of account relationships, ideally related to media
- Profound understanding of the music rights landscape in Europe
- Execution of distribution agreements with collection societies in Europe
- Strong network of professionals in the music community
- Ability to understand and analyze contract terms
- Ability to close complex deals at a fast pace
- Great communication and organizational skill
- Ability to adapt to a quickly changing, fast-paced environment
- 8+ years of experience in a related role
- BA/BS required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with major and independent content owners
- Demonstrated ability to create and execute content acquisition strategies
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; strong bias towards data-based decision making, and comfort with pro-forma financial and operational analysis
- Excellent communication and persuasion skills; demonstrated success building buy-in for an innovative and bold strategic vision
- Strong bias for action; the ability to juggle multiple priorities and excel in a lean work environment
- Street smarts; willingness to roll up the sleeves and do whatever is necessary to meet team goals
- MBA desired
